The HDFC Bank EDF format
- HDFC publishes a "Request letter for Export of Services & EDF Filing Cum Disposal Instructions for Credit" (PDF dated 30 September 2026). It has the RBI EDF's general information and invoice table, plus fields the RBI form doesn't have.
- Extra fields: the account to be credited, purpose code, exchange rate or forward contract, your PAN, an account to debit HDFC's charges from, and a contact number or email.
- It ends with an OFAC declaration, a FEMA declaration-cum-undertaking and the exporter's declaration from the RBI form, and space for the bank's certificate.
- Its invoice table has four rows; for more invoices it says to use an annexure. The free generator prints HDFC's layout followed by the full RBI EDF, which lists every invoice.
Category of exporter: HDFC's sample shows "Custom (DTA units)"; the RBI form also allows "others". Ask your branch which it wants.
How to submit it to HDFC Bank
- At the Trade Desk of your HDFC Bank branch, or through HDFC's "digital channel" (the policy doesn't name it). Questions go to the Trade Desk or your relationship manager.
- Same-day processing on a best-effort basis for documents submitted by 3 pm (HDFC's cross-border framework).
- HDFC doesn't say whether savings-account customers can use its digital channel. Ask your branch.
- Due within 30 days after the end of the month in which you invoiced: October 2026 invoices by 30 Nov 2026. One EDF covers all of a month's invoices. Work out your due date.
What to attach
- The EDF for services (HDFC's request letter and the RBI form).
- Your invoices, with the SAC code.
- Disposal instructions with the purpose code when the money arrives.
- If someone other than your client pays you (Deel, Upwork, a parent company): their details on the EDF, and a tripartite agreement or an invoice or contract naming them.
- IEC: HDFC's cross-border framework (17 Sep 2026) asks for one for all export transactions, while its FEMA policy mentions it for goods. An IEC costs ₹500 on the DGFT portal and its number is your PAN.
Charges
HDFC's policy doesn't list an EDF charge and links to its SME fees page. The request letter asks which account to debit processing charges from.
Individuals: you may not need to file
The regulations have no exemption for individuals. But on 7 October 2026 RBI's Governor said individuals don't have to report transactions of a personal nature, whatever the amount, and gave tutoring and small software work for clients abroad as examples; a Deputy Governor said individuals aren't included for contracts of a personal nature. RBI has promised an FAQ, which isn't out yet.
Until the FAQ is out, companies, LLPs and firms file; if you invoice in your own name, ask HDFC Bank whether it wants an EDF from you. Who files.
Questions
Does HDFC Bank have its own EDF form?
Yes. For services, HDFC publishes a request letter for export of services, EDF filing and disposal instructions for credit (dated 30 September 2026). It contains the RBI EDF's details plus credit instructions, purpose code, a charges account and declarations. easylancing's free generator fills it in for you; it isn't an official HDFC document, so check your branch hasn't changed it.
Where do I submit the EDF at HDFC Bank?
At the Trade Desk of your branch, or through HDFC's digital channel, within 30 days after the end of the month in which you invoiced. HDFC's policy doesn't name an email address or say whether savings-account customers can file online, so ask your branch or relationship manager.
Do I need an IEC for HDFC?
HDFC's cross-border framework says an IEC is needed for all export transactions, though its FEMA policy mentions it for goods. An IEC costs ₹500 on the DGFT portal and uses your PAN as the number, so getting one avoids delays.
I'm an individual freelancer. Do I need to file at all?
Possibly not. On 7 October 2026 RBI said individuals don't have to report transactions of a personal nature, and its FAQ is awaited. Ask HDFC whether it wants an EDF from you.
